Sep. 17 - IFRS – Strategic Challenges and Opportunites
For South Texas certified public accountants, adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is like having an 800-pound gorilla in the room. They may question if they need to confront it or run from it. With the right processes and technology, CPAs can easily transition from GAAP to IFRS.

Learning Objective(s):
The purpose of this seminar is to help CPAs understand how to deploy technology solutions to embrace the impact of the change from GAAP
to IFRS standards. The seminar will showcase studies of companies with international operations as they deployed a technology-based platform to manual accounting systems. As well, the seminar will also embrace the change management needed within an organization to make the transition from GAAP based practices to the newer IFRS standards.

Prerequisites: No advanced preparation is necessary. Program level is basic.

Sep. 23 - Compilation & Review Services
We will cover all of the basic AICPA requirements for performing & reporting on compilations & reviews (including all new SSARS). Additionally, we will discuss practical ways to perform SSARS engagements, including guidance for independence (ET 101-3) and review procedures. Numerous illustrations and discussion questions will enhance the learning process.
Learning Objective(s):
• Discuss and comprehend all recently issued SSARS (emphasizing # 19)
• Review the current status of Independence rules and how they affect your services and reports
• Address engagement performance issues that may enhance the quality of your work

The method of presentation is group-live instruction and the program level is intermediate. Prerequisites: there are no prerequisites for this course nor is there any advanced preparation required.

This seminar will discuss the nuances of the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) from its beginnings to its current applications. Planning issues will also be discussed, as well as the impact the AMT has on the 2011 tax filing season.
